So, what to write about...

How have you been? Well, let's just start with a lot has happened.

I can’t talk about it all yet. I’m getting my bearings here. So, I’ll post this video from Spain. I didn’t make the video. It was created by the Istituto Europeo Di Design (IED) Research and Education Centre in Madrid.

I don’t have a relationship with them, however, I do own this domain name (redefiningcraft.com) simply because I started an early WordPress blog in May of 2004 with this idea of writing about and forming a discourse around the hybridity of where art, craft, and design intersect.

In essence, I originated this idea— and they built upon it so, we’ll all enjoy their video. I do appreciate the Madrid | IED Istituto Europeo di Design’s work and their video does a good job of articulating in a visual way, where I am aiming to go with this site in a contemporary sense of “Redefining Craft in the Twenty-First Century”; there’s a lot to dig into here.

Now, I’ll have to find new words to go with new images of new work; it’s all a bit disorienting because I haven’t thought about this stuff in a while.

«However, I did present a paper at a conference in Toledo, Spain about this same topic and with this same name in 2008… if I find the paper, I’ll post it here as a follow-up post.»

* Update: Here’s an image from my October 2008 presentation for the Fundación Española para la Innovación de la Artesanía’s conference in Toledo, Spain.
